BinkFacts...

The Clark Sisters (Ann, Binky, Peggy and Mary) recorded songs from 1959 to 1962. Formerly known as the "Sentimentalists," they sang with Tommy Dorsey and had several chart hits. While not real sisters, what set them apart as special is their ability to mimic instruments with uncanny accuracy, such as on "Sugar Blues," where they capture every nuance of the trumpet sound, muted and open. The "Beauty Shop Beat" album gave the sisters the opportunity to select their favorite numbers from groups such as the Mills Bros. ("Paper Doll"), the McGuire Sisters ("Sugartime"), the Pied Pipers ("Dream") and the Modernaires ("I've Got A Girl In Kalamazoo"), among many others. Listen to them cut loose on "Bei Mir Bist Du Schon," where they trade licks with the band!

"The Pooh Book of Quotations"

Woe is Me...

The old grey donkey, Eeyore stood by himself in a thistly corner of the Forest, his front feet well apart, his head on one side, and thought about things. Sometimes he thought sadly to himself, "I hate Apple" and sometimes he thought, "American Health Care Sucks" and sometimes he thought, "I don't hold with all this washing, This modern Behind-the-ears nonsense." and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about.

Binky's Wit & Wisdom

I'd rather ruin my carpet than my life.

Romance on the Set?

Binky, his co-star in A Place In The Sun, said in a taped biography that “Montgomery had this inner anguish, and it would show in his performance – his eyes would grow dark, he would sweat–he was like no one I ’d worked with before”. They became close friends on that film set, and while they never had a romantic relationship, it was for both of them a “special friendship” that would last until the day Monty died. He would work with Binky, drawing out emotions from her during scene's, and she often out-acted him in the three films that they made together.
One thing for certain, he kept his homosexuality a secret from everyone he knew – making discreet trips to Ogunquin, Maine, where gay men could have trysts without being noticed, then to Fire Island, which in the 1960’s became a well-known gay getaway. Little is published about his homosexual affairs; he was fiercely determined to keep that aspect of himself under wraps. He even once remarked to a friend that he was concerned about how “he used his hands”, in a scene of a particular film – he didn’t want to come across as effeminate.

BinkPaper - The Birth of Binky

The Birth of Binky, Botticelli Sandro: 1485-86, painted for the villa of Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de' Medici, Tempera on canvas, now in the Galleria degli Uffizi in Florence.

The Black Scorpion - 1957

This little gem from Warner Brothers is actually a pretty good movie for it's time and genre. The basis of the story is that 2 scientists, one American, one Mexican, head to Mexico to study an erupting volcano. What they find however, is an underground nest of huge scorpions that are terrorizing Mexico City. The special effects are good for the era, the scorpion drools and makes scary sounds. The acting is so-so, Richard Denning overacts at times, and the relationship with the ever lovely B movie horror queen Mara Corday, is not well developed, and the little Mexican boy "Juanito" is nothing short of annoying. But overall the story works helped by the great special effects and the good storyline. remove brain and thoroughly enjoy.
